Every now and then I will recieve an email from ebay saying that someone has been illegally using my account. It asks you to go to the url and enter your login information... and then update your credit card info. I can tell this was a scam, because the url wasn't ebay's. Second I decided to enter a bogus username and pass, then presto it's to the credit card update page. From there I entered some nice profanity to the scammer and pressed submit... I'm sure that people have fallen for this more than once.
Yep. I get 5 or so a day. You can forward them to (although, I'm sure they can't do anything about it).
Don't underestimate the power of Ebay, VS, I'm sure they have enough resources to find who is sending those emails and shut them down At least I hope so, I have forwarded them dozens of similar emails
I suppose that it true since these emails are being sent by the people with the phony eBay sites that they link to in the emails. I wonder if eBay really does pursue them, or if is used more of a way to verify if an email is from eBay or not.
IMO the problem is international law and how not one united force can govern the internet. If you are in a country where you don't get prosecuted for that, you can email spam and scam like crazy. Not sure what ebay can really do about this.
Oh yes, there is a laundry list of things that eBay can charge these people with, the problem is finding them...
