    G'day Forum

I am a newbie to ebay, however i just listed my first ever item. It is my girlfriends lemon (old car) and I am trying to work out the best way to drive traffic to the ad.

Does anyone have any experience or advice in doing this? Is there anything that I should or shouldnt be doing?

If you want to take a look at the ad it is here:

    Thannks heaps

    Hi,

You have chosen a good medium for selling the car, I think. E-bay is good but, I have bought a very few items from there, and have not tried the ways to drive traffic for a product. Its a nice topic and I too would like to know about it.

I'd suggest you maybe writing some humorous articles about it and submit them to article directories with links to ebay as well as doing more of what you're doing with forums. There are a bunch of them and some are strictly automotive. Done right you could probably generate enough interest in the car that you might have to buy another one and do it again. LOL

Maybe try Adwords, but you will need to find some not too much competitive keywords. Or try joining some car forums and put a link to the auction into your sig link.

Definitely car forums, free online classified ads, article directories would take too long. The main thing is the proper use of keywords in your listing, so more people find it. Also, if your going to sell multiple items on eBay, you should list them all at the same time and link them all together in every listing.

I liked the article posting idea from donrock. Sites like ezinearticles, articledashboard, etc. are good places to submit articles too. Don't forget to put a link back to your ebay listing in the article!

Other than that I would just keep posting in forums (especially related car ones), and stuff like classified ads. Craigslist is another good alternative.

Thanks heaps for your comments and advice everyone. You are so Kind.

I have tried to make the listing funny, in the hope to also draw attention.

Some of my personal favourites on the listing come from the FAQ section. I have placed some of them below.

    Q. Would this car be suitable for my teenage son’s first car?

    A. Why Yes, Happy Birthday Son, we went all out this year, and bought you a freakin piece of sh!t, that comes with a broken steering wheel and rusts mark that looks like Jesus, hope you like it.

    Q. Does the car have a tow bar?

    A. Yeah Sure!! Hey Kids, get into the car, I have hooked up the caravan to this half cylinder piece of crap and we are going on a trip…. I hope your kids like holidaying on their freakin driveway.

If you want to read the rest of it, please visit My Girlfriends Car Is A Lemon

If you read it, i hope you enjoy it.

I will try and use some of your advice to drive traffic.

    Thanks heaps

Haha, that's actually a good way of doing it in this case. It really did draw my attention when I looked at it and made me want to read more. I actually got thoughts of wanting to buy the car which normally wouldn't happen with some other random piece of crap. Nice work.

It is really great how you incorporated comic into your ebay listing. It really does draw in attention, at least it drew in mine.

Thanks everyone for your comments and feedback. The listing seems to have taken off and nearly 4000 people have viewed it.

In saying that though, it is only at $102.50, but I guess it is still a lemon.

    Cheers

just list in correct category and put descriptive keywords in the auction title will be sufficient.

What about doing a video, upload it to youtube, then embed the video into your listing?

    Try it, it works...

Find forums that allow people to plug things that they are selling. Try Livejournal, they probably have a few places like that.

I thought about doing a video for youtube, but I only have a couple of days left until the auction runs out, so by the time i do it, and the video circulates, the Auction will be done and dusted.

Thanks everyone for taking a look at my listing. The Auction finished at 11am on Sunday, and by 1.30pm that Sik Mobile was loaded onto Ray's trailer and the $178 was in my pocket. A fantastic experience.

It was my first ever ebay listing, and over 5000 individual users read the ad. I thought that this might have been an average amount of hits, however I had heaps of people telling me that 5000 was massive, and wanting to know what I had done to get that many hits.

In the process of selling the car, and amongst all the feedback I was receiving. I got an idea, that could be set up as either an external website, complementing ebay, or it could in fact be implemented by ebay.

I was wanting to know if anyone could give me some advice on what i should do with my idea. Obviously I dont want to just spill the beans to ebay or anyone else just yet, because I would lose control of the idea, but at the same time, if i just hold onto it, it will never get anywhere.

What is the best way to approach this. Should I try and contact ebay, to see if they are interested? Should i try and contact an external party (Not quite sure who).

I know i havent given out much here, but any advice would be great. Also if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

    Cheers

    Jake
