Dude. There is no easy way of ranking in the top ten easily. Especially when it comes to Google. I suggest you choose keywords to optimize for, create a website, add tons of content - and then build backlinks. By doing so, in that order, you're making sure that you get good rankings. it depends on how competitive your keyword. First put your keyword in your site content, meta title and description ( try to use some attributes in the content ) build links with an anchor of your target keywords, allow SE to index your site using the links you build and see if SE will give you good points on those stuff.

Target a long tail keyword with few competitors and a good amount of search results. You will more likely be in the top 10 search results in no time. But if you target the competitive niches, I can no more say anything but Good luck on that. As there is no shortcut in tough fights.

Patience is the key if you want to have Top Ten Google Ranking. There is no shortcut or easy way to get success in life, nothing can be achieved overnight. Only hardwork pays. Same with SEO also, I am giving here few pointers (traditional old way though) if you want to follow:- 1. Make list of Profitable Keywords: - Use Google Adwords external keywords tool and make a list of semantic keywords. Calculate Keyword Effective Index (KEI) for each keywords, KEI = Number of monthly Searches/Number of Competitors. Now choose a relatively specific keyword (can be Long tail), which have a higher KEI value. Start with optimizing for that keyword article. 2. Make a thorough research online about the specific keyword and write some good unique useful content semantic to your targeted keyword. 3. If possible, make some useful tool/widgets in your website and make it free, for example if your niche is SEO specific, make a free tool to determine Page rank and OBL of a webpage and make it easy so that everyone can use their in their website . This way you can get some useful one-way link from them. 4. Start link building campaign, start with the old but still useful method of directory submission. Submit to those directories that have good moderation only and have good PR. 5. Next comes social bookmarking. Technorati tags have good importance as far as Yahoo optimization is concerned. 6. Social media and social networking tabs have also some useful role in Link Building though most of them are no followed. 7. Write some niche specific good articles and contact relevant webmasters for guest posting. If they have decent quality, webmasters will gladly publish those. I agree with you, there is no easy way to get to the top 10 of Google. The only easy way request lots of $$$$ to pay for SEO, and it is not easy to get $$$$. So, to get to top 10 of Google you need to work hard everyday and get up to 20 backlink each day.
The old "write lots of quality content!" bit is so frustrating to read for a business owner. For instance, let's say you own a construction business. No one is coming to your site for original and unique content. They're coming because you happened to pop up first on Google when they were looking for builders in their area. No one is going to link to your site other than a handful of suppliers (but most don't because it's tacky), but certainly no competitors in your field. So you're really just left with finding sites to post links on, forums, and blogs to comment on. That's it.
There is no real short cut with white hat but some black hatter may speaking instead. Apart from your expected short cut then there are some tips 1. Targeted none to very low competitive keywords instead 2. Buy websites which is already ranked top 10 for any terms you desired
