There are no easy ways.. you are lucky that you have a site in the lesser competitive niche.

Good suggestion CJ Online - thanks!

Also, I installed the free Alexa Tool Bar / site checker so I can easily see how many backlinks competitive sites have. If you go to Alexa.com and look up those sites, you can even get a list of exactly which site are linking to your competitors.

This is really helping me crystallize what I need to do to get on the first page of Google. It will take a while, but I'm gaining more focus for it now. :)

purchasing links from sites that sell limited links though is not that bad. check the site to see how many outbound links they have in their link page.

    Yeah... Good luck with that.

#1 How many times they use the search term has little to do with rankings. The days of keyword density being a major ranking factor have LONG gone.

#2 The chances of you getting the same links as your competitors are slim to none. And while buying links might get you ahead in the short run, if Google catches on (by detecting them or by performing a manual review because of a spam report - maybe even for a site other than your own) then you could lose it all.

If you want to build links, start with great content. Other webmasters are not going to link to crappy or even mediocre content. Then study up on link building the "Eric Ward" way... merit based link building. Eric is known as "Link Moses" because he has been building links for a decade and a half.

CJ Online -- Let's say I want to build my own list of Do Follow blogs in my niche.

How can I tell whether a site is Do Follow or not?

There are no easy ways... otherwise everybody would have a free ride. Expect long, hard work. Specially link building.

My advice: target first long-tail keywords and misspellings. If you look at Kamal42's words, those are long tail and misspellings That's why he scores better, there is less competition for those. As you build up gradually many long-tail related keywords, you will gradually score better for the words contained in them.

Come on! Simply open from your browser the page source code for a site and see whether it contains "nofollow! in the links!

You should use yahoo site explorer to explore the competitors website. And try to build links related to these sites.

For getting the 1st place in Google first you need to work out on your site on optimization level. Then you come on to improve the back links and competitor analysis.

You can go to seobook.com and get the seo4firefox addon. They you just click an icon on your toolbar and all the nofollow links turn red. It does lots of other cool things too, and it's free.

    Hi jewel3000,

See this post of mine. It may help a little. =)

And purchasing links is never a good idea. Google pretty much considers it black hat, and your site will get banned over time. No matter how you slice it, Google assumes you're just trying to buy PageRank.

By checking competitor's back link in google(site:domainname.com) wouldn't give you the proper links. it just display the some of back links. If you want to know their real back link, you need to know their webmaster tools login details. Because webmaster tool only can provide appropriate result. So it doesn't help you lot. IT helps you bit.

just don't follow your competitors blindly and never try to achieve what your competitors have achieved in a month, you might get in notice of search engines for making links. Try to maintain a speed thats look normal. Don't try to get listed in all links in a single go. I have seen websites getting punished when they do so. Their PR goes down ranking got worse. So beware

Okay, I defnitely won't buy links now. I think I'll go the article directory route, lots of them.

But I will check into buying some Do Follow blog lists in my niche.

My one advice is just keep building link after link. Find good link after good link.

Plus when you purchase links (generally) they are placed on sites that are not related to your niche. You get more link juice with backlinks from related sites :)
