There are automated ways of doing this. Sites that have "Auto link exchange" capabilities. PM me if you want details. It's easy and you can get a number of back links all at once.
The easy way is to create templates use free custom sitebuilders with your backlink already built in. You just give them away from your site or blog and other people use them within or to create their sites because they are free. Each site they created has a backlink to yours on every page. I've seen this generate 8000 plus links depending how you measure them.
