    Hi

I have a word doc that is 630kb in size. I then use Primo PDF or PDF Printer
and convert to PDF and the actual PDF doc ends up being around 7MB in size.

It's 29 pages with photo's that have been made smaller using Photoshop etc
    so my QUESTION is:

How to I convert to PDF and keep the file size around 1MB or I'd even be
happy with a file size around 2MB?

    Thanks in advance.

Well which version of office do you have?

I do not understand why it is increasing in size by that much.

I use office 2007 SP2, and it natively supports saving as PDF.

So I had a word doc of 8 pages and the size was 213 Kb, I saved it as PDF through Word 2007, and the file size was 530Kb.

I have also used PrimoPDF, and it was giving a similar size (600kb-1Mb), I think.

Thanks for that. I never realised about the whole MS Word thing. It has worked a treat and
now the file size from saving from MS word is down to 1.3MB.
    Brilliant.

Primopdf allows for different resolutions during the distillation process. Although I have to admit, about the only way I have seen a pdf grow in size over the native file is when the fonts are embedded. MS Word can do the job. It is somewhat limited in pdf making features but workable. I use Acrobat Pro. The pro version has a user selectable pdf optimizer and I can make files really skinny. Acrobat Pro also allows you to create hyperlinks in pdfs. Something you can't do in most pdf makers after the fact.

I suggest Getting Open Office it is a free download, and you can copy and past your current document into it, and does convert to pdf. Works well for me.

Here's an idea to help you popularize your book if you are distributing it free... Upload it on youpublish dotcom and download back the pdf (I guess you've done this part anyway). youpublish is well linked to search engines so your book will pop up every time someone is typing in your keywords.

I use OpenOffice.org (free) File > Export to PDF option and they never turn out that big. I'd suggest giving it a shot and seeing if it'll help lower your file size.

If not, OpenOffice also has an option to compress your images when exporting to PDF so that should help at the very least.

Open Office is the easiest to work with. You can convert existing docs to PDF in a snap!
