Are there any templates or any services that makes this easier? I need something that will have 6-10 items right at the front page and then a shopping cart with it. Are there any shopping cart services that make this easier? Instead of building it from scratch? Any one with any suggestions I would appreciate any of them. Thanks
I like Joomla integrated with Virtuemart. Zencart oscommerce ... There are free too you need a host but if you have fantastico or simplescripts with a current host they may be in there and push button install. There are many others.
Paypal is a widely used payment system for sending and recieving. And people dont Have to have a paypal account to pay eithier it can accept direct credit card payments etc.
For less than 20 items I'd recommend WordPress with the WP-ecommerce plugin, especially if you're new to ecommerce development. It's pretty straightforward to get going, and can be styled with just some CSS. It also works very well with PayPal. Good luck!
I suggest ecwid. it's very powerful solution. for payment you can get 2CO account for 49$ or use paypal or google checkout http://www.ecwid.com
I like wordpress, i think you should be able to set up what you need without to much trouble. Yes, go with Paypal for sure, it'd be a mistake too not implement it.
If you have big plans in the future for your site, use Joomla and Virtuemart. If you just want to have a simple storefront and not to develop it any more than that, use Wordpress.
I heard Paypal is tough when it comes to putting holds on money?... What other ones are less lenient towards what you sell also? Thanks for the replies...it's been really useful... Wordpress is sounding like the way to go with an easy cart to put in...
I was looking for this exact same thing a while back. I tried joomla and virtuemart, it worked pretty well but the virtuemart backend is a little overwhelming. Wordpress is probably better for small end, usually easier to handle. I'd say the best solution to accepting credit cards and payments is still paypal. As long as you keep shipping records you shouldn't worry about fraud or chargebacks.
It you intend to remain small then I would agree with WP. I would also use PayPal, I've never had any problems with them.
