Easiest/Best way to set up a website

    Hi,
I had tried to set up a website in the past, but I got pretty lost. Now I've decided to set up another, but I would like to know the easiest way to do it (For free).
So basically, I'm looking for a way to set up a free website (ad supported I presume) where I can set up my portfolio and promote my music, and hopefully have streaming music, pictures, and possibly videos.

Also, I have heard people on this forum talking about making money with adsense. From what I have gathered, you put adsense ads on your web page and if your page has a high number of hits, you um.. make money?
Perhaps someone can explain that, or maybe I need to make another post about it. Still, if adsense is what I think it is, how might I put that on my site?

    I truly appreciate the help.

Well your (probably) not going to get a proper website (with a tld) for free. You will have to pay for a domain name of your choice (godaddy, name.com) to name a few companies that allow you to purchase these. You will also need hosting, (free hosting can be obtained, but it's probably best to purchase some.)

Then you will need an actual website, I recommend that you learn HTML and CSS. Get yourself a good book on these and start learning.

Then write some good content (or a good portfolio (I didn't really understand your post)) to attract visitors. You will need to upload the site to your hosting account. You will need a ftp client for this, I recommend filezilla.

Adsense is from google. When people visit your site they are shown relevant ads, IF and only IF the visitor clicks on the ads then you will get a small payment per click.

    OR......

You could start your own blog, wordpress has a free option that allows free hosting and you get a domain too. This way you can get started and publishing content for free. There are a few other options on the blogging front that allow you to get started for free, blogger is another.

    OR.....

You can choose to use some other CMS (content management system) and upload that to your hosting account (you will need a domain). There are plenty of CMS available for free, you can test some of them out at http://opensourcecms.com/

I'm sure that you can get a website up and running for free. But remember "You get what you pay for".

If you can't put up the small minimal charge (say around $30) a year for a small website then what you have to put on the internet is probably not worth me looking at.

On the other hand, there is one site I know of,

well there are restrictions with freehosts , btw if you still need a good hosting package, here's one site i was using (before i moved to paid hosting :D ) > zymic.com

And the best way to start of would be to use a free template. Or if you need a Professional Designer to do the job , You can find many experienced Designers/developers here ;)

Learn WordPress. A highly flexible blogging / cms piece of software. Practice, learn and play for a couple of weeks / months and then go and buy webspace.

Never launch a site from scratch. Trial and perfect before hand
