Earth Hour took place last night here in Melbourne and this morning there were pictures of what the city looked liked at 8.15pm and there were lots of lights on in the city and even more lights on in the city than at 7.45pm, although this did get a lot of public attention and promotion and so hopefully it will help keep that idea of switching the lights off in the front of your mind every time you leave a room. Do you believe it was a success? Did you participate?
It's going on right now where I am. I always try to save as much energy as I can though. I don't think most people care about it.
Its going on now here as well I saved up my laptop battery, it can stay for another 4 hours Theres a candle next to me..LOL
You should cultivate the habit of saving power whenever you do not require it. Of course, the earth hour provided the much needed impetus and awareness for the public. Hope, in due course, the global warming comes down
most of the poor third world (now dont be bashing on me I said poor, not ALL) countries are already doing it though long before Earth Hour is cool why? how? not much electricities, frequent or daily blackouts, no lgihts, etc..
there seemed to be a lot of lights out on my street. but it's hard to say if that wasw because earth hour or for other reasons
I always try to conserve electricity in my house, not only am I helping the environment, I am also saving money on electric bills.
I think this is more what's about, awareness of wasting energy and being carbon conscious rather than saving energy from one mere hour because we will live for hundreds of thousands of hours and it's about saving energy throughout all of them not just the one and they achieve the goals, all the newspapers and tv stations promoted it and so did some big companies and people.
we just had it few hours ago here. i turned all my lights off and went for a drive to see the city. didn't seem like anyone knew (or cared) as i didn;t see anything different. i was quite upset
Trying to get people to conserve energy is a bit of a crock, and this from an environmentalist. Why? Because the wasters will always make up for the conservationists, and the largets users of energy are corporate anyway. Turning off unused lights is great, but what would be greater is devoting the resources to develop an alternative energy infrastructure able to accomodate the many changing needs of groing and developing populations. Some research on improving solar panels would be more productive.
Nobody switched off the lights around my place... nor did I! My family didn't want me to switch of the lights, so I couldn't do it.... If there was a list of top 50 people in the world who waste the most electricity, I would actually be right in there... I realized I waste a lot of electricity.... Right now my TV, Music System is on! And I'm not using!
As much as I would love to help, I ahve to study these days till very late nights so hard to turn off lights and other electricities.
It only worked if people do adapt their life styles to saving power if they don't it was just wasted time and money.
no one i spoke to knew anything about it...one did not even understand why google's page was blacked out.
apparently it made a difference.. like they could tell that they saved energy.. it was equivalent to 42million cars not being used in 1 hr.
