before i invest hours of time i want to know what the possibilites are. perhaps i need to make a business plan to get a loan - so the most information i can gather will help. if i know the average site is only earing a few hundred per month, and only 1 out of 10,000 publishers are earning more than 10k per month - perhaps there is a better use of my time - ya know? ps - love the username Ari Gold - he is the best!
nobody is going to give the detailed info you are asking. not to be rude, but its just none of your business and people arent going to help you become their competitor. ad inventory is in short supply as it is. my opinion? dont invest hours of your time, dont quit your job, dont get a loan, dont risk your financial future. yes, the average publisher makes diddly and is scratching his head trying to make more. not trying to be an a$$ but, like the man Ari said, who cares what others are making? jmo
its really just for conversation purposes. you guys need to relax. im not asking what your sites are or what categories your site(s) fall under or anything that will reveal your secrets. the purpose of this forum is to talk with other YPN publishers so thats what im doing. are you really revealing that much by saying "i have a site that does around 'x' traffic and earns around 'y' per month'? if you dont tell anyone your url and speak in generalities than it really shouldnt be abig deal so stop crying like babies. fact is, im just interested in seeing the various approaches that publishers use. some guys use the many small sites approach, some guys build one large site, and some guys pump out crappy myspace sites and pump them full of ads. obviously there are plenty of publishers here who dont mind talking about this kind of thing so long as no specifics are given. ive invested hours of my time and quit my job and am doing very well. my 2 sites have next to nothing invested in them other than my personal time so ive made no risk to may financial future. \ if you dont want to reveal anything about your practices or sites then dont. but dont act as if you speak for everyone else when there are obviously publishers here with no hang-ups about discussing their practices
i speak only for myself, hence the jmo (just my opinion). honestly, could care less what you or anyone else does but, it is a discussion, so i reserve the right to add my opinion. good luck and once again, jmo
Deone, here are a lot of people who always feel like the discussing for no reason. Some people here are very grumpy. But, there are very cool people here also.
sorry everyone.. didnt mean to get all bitchy. I apologize! I've learned a lot from this forum and others and appreciate everyone's feedback. Wentworth, Both of my sites are pet related. YPN is only part of our revenue. We also have subscription services (password protected sections of the site that you must pay to use) and an online store that features dozens of different affiliate feeds that we have combined into one store. We are getting pretty good traffic considering we don't advertise. (we just do lots of SEO and other 'free' ways to increase traffic) Being that we are a pet site, our RPC for YPN is not even close to what some of the big-time publishers here are earning, but that's fine. We are still very happy with the results YPN has produced. We are also starting to get lots of inquiries about direct advertising so in the future we hope to use YPN less and less since we can make a bit more with direct advertising.
