Earnings plummet after recommended change

I have a site that usually makes a minimum of $10/day (and often more). I have been getting messages from Google for months saying my selected ad sizes were not optimal and I should change them to see an increase in my earnings. I was using 3 button size ads per page and Google recommended I change them to a 728x90 leaderboard. I tried this out a couple days ago and my earnings have plummeted to less than $2/day. The ads are in the exact same position, take up the same amount of space and have the same colors. It's only been two days, but I haven't earned this little in years.

My question is, does it take some time after an ad format change to see the real earning potential (due to propagation issues) or should I change back to my original ad format immediately?

Stick it for a few days to see if theres any change if not id revert back to your old configuration.

same ads format does not work for every sites it is up to you to decide the right format for your website

 

What is the Difference between "Humans and Bots"? Bots are idots. Those emails are auto generated. Ignore. when you earn from a particular format, is there a need to change.

 

I agree that their statistical data won't understand every nuance about my audience that a human would see so it's foolish to follow it blindly, but don't believe it's wise to completely ignore it. My site will earn from any format people can see just because I get a lot of traffic, but I'm sure it could earn more and when there is data showing successful formats I think it's at least worth experimenting with. I was just freaking out due to the dramatic dip, but apparently it does take a couple of days before the earnings go back to normal. Day three and I've earned $11.64 so far. Not any more than average, but not worse either.

I'll stick with it a while longer and see how it averages over a few more days, but I do appreciate everyone's feedback.

 

Has your traffic taken a hit? You were probably affected by the Panda update.

 

Those emails come from bot reviews and they just go by the count and size of your ads on all the pages of site and reports to you, just ignore them and of course, there is nothing wrong in testing, so now you know what to do

 

I agree with ignoring them. I got the same e-mail and my earnings dropped to a 1/3 of what they were. I changed the ads back and my earnings are finally back to normal.

 

It is all about testing ads at different places. Also, try to use all possible add units cleverly. I was not using them until someone told me and once I put the units, it increased my earnings upto 40%.
