Earning Traffic with contests?

Hi guys,

What do you think: Are contest a good way to earn traffic for your blog?

I started a contest on my blog ( check my sig ) and I don't know if it will attract people to partecipate. Do you think it was a good idea?

Please tell me what do you think?

I wrote this to get some opinions... But where are these opinions?

 

I don't know to much about traffic, but I can assure you a good contest can bring in a lot of subscribers to your blog, that can covert well into sales

 

Contests will work if you are well known or you are already getting good traffic from web.

 

Contest are an extremely good way of getting traffic to your blog.

I have a contest running here: http://www.thatblogsite.com/win-a-free-domain-name-and-a-youtube-niche-video-site/

and the comments and subscribers that I've gained indicate that contests work great.

 

depends ... longer contests are less appealing.....and if u include a charge to join the contests, that could be quite a turnoff. Unless your site is really popular....then go ahead

 

contests are good if u could give it a good publicity. if you hold a contest and no one knows then it's not going to do good.

i would suggest to increase your contest deadline to a month rather than a week. this will give you more time. also, let less popular blogs to participate as well. when you have lots of people participating the newer big shot people will participate as well. people always like to conform remember.

Also a lot of people will not participate because "the winners shall be the ones that have the blogs with highest ranks." This really destroys the purpose. Make it random or someone who could send the highest visitors will win. Remember, someone with a higher rank will be the one to send the most traffic. However, you reword in such a way so that it doesn't intimidate bloggers with low ranks to participate. Remember people with blogspot.com needs the domain more and so they will work harder to get you more traffic.

what do they get from the contest , like what are some good give aways that would attract ppl

 

In this case i offer 2 .info domains.
On next contest not .info domains but .com!

 

.. so u reg two domains for ex: at go daddy, and then who ever wins you just transfer them to the person, and what exactly is the contest what do the pppl have to do

definately not, when i see these it never helps me get find what im looking for... unless i was looking for a contest... for long term traffic, SEO is the only solution (unless you're willing to pay for PPC). Also make sure you have good content

Good to see free resources but I am not sure how many bloggers gonna post about your contest in their blogs, coz it's a completely off-topic discussion for any blog theme except blog-review bloggers. My suggestion to you would be to make a small catchy image with your contest punch line and ask bloggers to paste the link somewhere near the top. Some may hesitate but your offer will attract some bloggers surely.

Its just my 2 cents.

I don't know what to do. I should advertise more I think.I'll advertise everywhere on weekend. Hope to see some traffic this week ( for the first time, some real traffic )
