Recently I have heard that, If you remove "advertise on this site" from googles ad block, you can earn more. But I dont know its true or not, There are many people who got success with that. I have not checked it so far.

the most important in get the rank is to findout the profitable keyword on your site....

find the keyword using google tools
use google wonder wheels to get your targeted audience
post 2 -3 unique article that relevant to your keyword
use wordtracker as you tools to find out how many search that your keyword does
