I know you pay for adwords for either clicks or per 1000 impressions.
Adsense pays you for clicks only.

Is that true? or is there a way to let adsense to pay you for impressions?

    No!
They pay you if your site shows the CPM ads.
Typically, the advertiser targets sites to show his CPM ads. so if your site's been targeted by the advertiser and it shows CPM ads, then you will get the money without a click however clicks on CPM ads do not pay.

So you could basically have a page with CPM ads, and an auto-clicker.. ;).

    But maybe not.. :p.

I've had those too - .01 shows up out of the blue with no click activity associated with it - is that what that is? CPM? It kinda confused me - was wondering how i made money for nothing lol (albeit not much) :D

Yeah, that threw me the first time it happened. I've noticed that I tend to get those "phantom pennies" from revenue sharing forums like this one and a couple of crappy blogs I have. My main sites hardly ever get CPM ads.

I think with CPM ads you need at least 5000 impressions a day to make anything near a decent amount. I think my earnings have decreased overall with CPMs taking the place of some CPCs.

yeah, i get the occasional .01 from here, also another thing i notice, is that alot of times, i'll have a small eCPM (a few bucks usually) for my DP channel, but $0.00 in revenue.

All my cpm earnings come from revenue sharing forums like this one. Just curious, why would a site pay just to have their ad shown xxx amount of times without actually being visited? Or am I understanding the whole cpm thing wrong?

CPM now is used more for branding or getting your name out there as CPM can be had for cheaper in most cases. Because if you see something enough it will start to stick... or ignore it :)

Yeah like for websites clicks are good but for something say like pepsi they don't really care if oyu click. They just want their brand out there.

I have gotten those mystery pennies too. I will have no clicks but a penny.

It is absolutely NOT true. Google also pays you for impressions as well.

Ask someone to target your site(s) :D

ok, so am I right in understanding that normally you don't get paid for impressions, but if someone picks your site in their adwords program, then you get a % of the CPM ?
