I did search for this but I couldn't find much, if it's been asked before please point me to that thread. Just wondering what are the exact early steps you guys take when building an information, advertising targetted site? Here is what I've done so far with my new site: 1. Build the site and get the first few pages of content read. (note I optimize for SE as I go, I've got some previous experience with it) 2. Submit to google 3. Submit to directories (DMOZ, Yahoo etc) Heres what I plan to do next. 4. Add more information (another 10-20 pages worth) 5. Find related sites and politely ask for a link, giving reasons why my site would be useful to their users. 5. Continue to add content. 6. Wait How does this differ from your early steps? Is there anything I've forgotten or should change? For those of you that have lots of sites (more than 10) are there any tips you can give to speeding up the process and reducing the work load? Would also be interested to hear how long it usually takes before a new site begins to earn you decent ad revenue ( > $10 / day)? My last site took 2 years but I didn't know anything back then.
It sounds like you're on the right track. If you wanna speed up the process, you could start an Adwords account for your informational site, kinda getting 'word' out there about it. But waiting is part of the game, unless you can find some sort of viral method to get people to link to your site, but most people don't. Since waiting is part of it, start on another niche. Do the same thing and then start another...then another...then another. By the time you know it, you'll have 30 sites and the first 5 or so that you started 6 months ago will be pulling in some nice traffic and, hopefully, revenue. As for speeding up the process, you can outsource the link building. That's the one area thats probably the most time consuming, granted you're using the same type of template for all your niche, informational sites. Lastly, its hard to say when it will start to generate $10 because that completes depends on the niche your targeting. I know people who get thousands of pageviews a day and only make $5 a day with their niche sites. So that's why I say continue with quantity AND quality. Count on each site make $1-5 a day. Grow the amount of sites from there.
Hi Nexic, I agree with everything Voasi said - good input there. You may also want to try submitting articles to the free article directories, and including a link to your site in your Resource Box. Every directory that posts your article represents a one-way backlink to your site, and any Webmasters that post the article on their sites will create a one-way backlink, as well. I've had good success using this method. HTH, Sam
As for submitting articles can you give me some leads to sites where you can do this? It's something I was thinking of doing but I've not had much luck in finding some decent places. Thanks for the advice so far
The best way to find good article directories is to search google for them. That way you know they are high PR and trusted sites. http://www.google.com/search?q=article+directory
My experience D you would see I'm newbie here, but not newbie in SEO) tells me the fastest way to get visits is this: Good quality content: does not mean well written, does mean Link Bait: seomoz.org/articles/bg5.php#5d It's important to don't publish all your worthy content now, you must save a little for the future. Visits. If you really passed the link baiting, now you need visits. Proper link exchange or buying good ads will publicise your website, which if is really worthy, brings you some good links. Some good links. Now, and not before, you can think about SEO. If you can achieve some 2004 or older domains to link you, the better. Links from new domains, specially if they doesn't have too much popularity are not allways very valuable. More quality content. Now you have some visits, more quality content will give you more links. Use now all the quality content you have, but bring all the quality content united. Some quality content every day, if your site is not a blog, it's a waste of time. Wait until you have something important, then you will have more free advertisement from your readers. As you see, as a SEO can be something strange to tell you don't care too much, but if you can optimise internally your site and give it good content, external links will arrive without you wasting your time. Also I would recommend you to get allways feedback from your visitors. They are the only one who can tell you exactly how your site is, cause as far as you did the site, you loose the objectiveness.
