For the last eleven years I have always heard URL pronounced you-are-el. In the last 6 months I've heard a few people pronouncing it Earl. To me it sound like they don't know that it is U.R.L. and are pronouncing it like it's a word and not an acronym. These people have been programmers of non-webcentric languages. Which do you prefer/use?
The first time I heard it pronounced Earl, I had an instant pet peeve. After a while I was going to either tell the guy to say U.R.L. or I would start refering to it as Ralph (when I was a kid we'd say someone one "calling Ralph and Earl" when they were vomiting).
Do you ever hear it pronounced Earl or errrl? If so then by who? I heard it mainly from server side programmers that aren't very GUI. There focus is on transactions, log files, configurations, etc so they aren't so web interface focused.
