    I'd look up the websites of any major shoe retailer and decide for yourself what works and what doesn't. Try to assess why they've made the design and functionality decisions they've made. The time spent will be better than waiting for people here to suggest designs. I'm surprised that shoes are different from any other fashion item. Isn't there a standard presentation that you can't fail with?
