Hi, I have been writing web content for a little over a year for low paying companies. I want to go on to something else and I thought I would write some e-books. Has anyone here had any success with writing and selling e-books?
    Thanks
    Sherry

    I have a suggestion.

Write a few small and free ebooks on various aspects of your topic of choice. It's good promotion.

You will have a good foundation from where you can publish
paid for ebooks which you can put out after a while.

OK, this is promotional, but try visiting my website to see if some of the products I sell fit your needs. You can see it in my avatar.

If you've been writing for over a year, then you've had plenty of practice. Many ebooks are not well written, have grammatical problems and typos, sometimes even language barriers creep in. I bet you'll do fine. Make sure you get help on promotion, if not it can fall into an abyss regardless of how well you write.

    Hi Sherry,

As a professional writer who has done really well in paper books ( my best book was Quicken for Dummies, which sold more than 1,000,000 copies ) I would say that ebooks represent a great opportunity.

I'm not sure that I know the trick to making all this work -- though I do okay with my ebooks -- but ebooks that are really specialized can do darn well...

    Good luck!

This is a great topic. I have been writing cheap, unique content for clients for a while now. My problem is I don't charge enough. I started because I became disabled and unable to perform other work. Losing the house and everything we own. Allot of people came to my aid in the form of writing work. I started very cheaply not knowing what to charge. Then, I was afraid to try and charge more simply because I need the work to save the house and keep the utilities on etc.

I have a couple of domains and want to get into IM and ebooks to actually make some money and not have to work so hard. Any help in this would be appreciated. Having trouble getting started.

I think Ebooks are great and think it may help get us on our feet. Would like to see more on this topic.

    Thanks,

    Don

P.S. any thoughts on web site appreciated as well, wxx.affordablecontent.phpmarketing.com.

    Thanks for everything.

I agree with some of the above replies.
Write something to give away for free. Make sure you put quality in it cause this is gonna build your reputation. Make it viral, give people the rights to give away, sell it, use it on their websites whatever. Just make sure it's master (resell) rights only so they can't remove your name from it.
Use these free books as a teaser. Add a bio and announce that there is more of you to be expected.
You could give your readers the possiblity to enlist on a newsletter so by the time the book that you want to sell is ready they are notified.
    Good luck to you.

There is a lot of money being made in just creating short reports now which are only 7-15 pages long. You could charge $5-$17 for a report. Actually alot of people are making money selling $7 reports. I create and sell lesson plans that are 11 pages for $15.
What I do, is write a 4 or 5 page summary of the lesson or concept of the software I am teaching, and what you can do with it, then I give this report away for free. Inside it does still have a couple affiliate links that are relative to my topic. And make it a rebrandable does allow other affiliates to make a few bucks by giving it away as well. You can buy software such as ViralPDF for a relatively good price and it well pays for itself.
It is much better to create your own ebooks and reports to sell then try to sell other products made and sold by many others. You have the advantage of being able to offer a unique product. I know there are tons of PLR material/products out there people use but if you can truly write about your own knowledge, it is a great feeling when it starts going viral and you become well-known.

    Cheers! To your success!

The suggestion about writing reports is a good one, in my opinion. It's a nice transition from writing articles to writing ebooks.

I don't agree with clinton who said 'don't sell ebooks' with no reason or explanation why you shouldn't. There are hundreds, if not thousands of people on Clickbank that would tell you yes you can absolutely make money selling ebooks.

    Best of luck to you!!

I should get this book. I've had quicken for almost two years and just don't get it entirely. I do fairly well with it but it's sort of like access in its database set up.

Give me dreamweaver or photoshop and I'm a pro in 10 minutes or less. Give me an accounting program and I'm furrowing my brow for two years. Clearly, it's left brained and I'm right brained.
