Dynamic keyword insertion in URL?

    Hello,

I'm trying to determine the term the visitor had *really* searched for for a broad match keyword, and the DKI in the destination URL doesnt seem to cut it, opposite to what is written on the net.

    Example:

    - I have keyword "widgets", broad match, with DKI in destination URL: www.mysite.com?kw={keyword}&my_id=12345

    - I store the {keyword} into a MySQL table along with my own id of the keyword

    - after a few days the table looks like:

    widgets 12345
    widgets 12345
    widgets 12345
    widgets 12345
    widgets 12345
    ...

i.e. there are no *different* keywords in at all. that cant be right if the DKI passes the REAL searched-for term - people are most certainly also searching for "red widgets" etc - which I dont have as keywords.

Anyone any idea what's wrong and how to get the real searched-for term?

    Regards,
    Michael

I use DKI alot(in the title and description fields), but have never tried it in the url..your problem is probably a result of how your using the {keyWord:_____}, but since it's not tied to ad copy, i'm not sure how one would set it up..sorry, not much help I know :(

To find out what the serach term was, you can run a Report for Search Query Performance

magda: I know that. however, matching keywords from the report vs. conversions - and determining profitability - is a mess if the network in question does not support Google tracking, or you don't have it set up for some other reason. I'd like to understand why the keyword being passed via DKI is not the searched-for one but rather the one that triggered the ad.

so far, I have no idea.
