The guys at Alky Project have managed to successfully port the new API across to Windows XP http://alkyproject.blogspot.com/ http://www.technospot.net/blogs/download-directx-10-for-windows-xp-from-alky-project/ Installer: http://rapidshare.com/files/162646613/dx10.rar.html Uninstaller: http://rapidshare.com/files/162646614/dx10-xpu.exe.html Check DirectXDiagnostic tool for confirmation (dxdiag) Games like Bioshock, Stalker work, although you need to download a fix to run each game. Make sure you back up everything important though as you may need to reinstall windows as it doesn't work for everybody. Cons: DX10 is currently in version 10.1, and recent games require the latest version. Farcry 2 for example wont run in DX10 unless it detects 10.1, however older games such as Bioshock will run fine in DX10 modes. DX9 games are unaffected too. However since all DX10 games will run in DX9, you might think that hacking XP is too much of a risk, but i thought you'd like to know anyway.
Sweet! I'll be definately trying it. This is a great way to use dx10 without having to upgrade to Vista
Wow great advice. Thank you. I'll do anything to stave off upgrading to Vista (if it can really be classfied as an upgrade). I think Windows 7 is due for release in a couple of months too so hopefully DX11 coupled with a faster and more useable OS will be worth the wait.
