Yesterday everything was fine. Today every time I try to insert an image DW has a fatal exception and dies on me. It´s driving me mad! Why is it doing this? Guess I need to reinstall? :(

Maybe it's caused by something else commanding memory.

I say this because two years back, my copy of DW experienced intermittant problems after I installed a memory-hoggish program.

Think about what you've done system-wide over ter the past few days.

You might also perform the big 3 in virus scanning; adaware, spybot, and ms.

    Look here

Thanks PCDoc. That is a useful list of articles. I haven´t installed or downloaded anything and for once today I have relatively few things open. I just don´t get it but I´ll try the scanning first.

I had a similar problem a few weeks back. i can't remember what the specific error code was, but DW was generating an error, and I was able to google the specific error message and find a fix. seems a preferences file had gotten corrupt or something, i think it was in \Program Files\Common Files\Macromedia but i'm not sure which one. you might try googling any error codes you can see. You might look in your event viewer to see if your system can tell you what in specific is crashing DW.

Aargh! I spybotted and adawared, uninstalled and reinstalled. DW is still crashing and now Adobe Photoshop is too! Vector thanks for your suggestion. I am not being given any clues - there are no error codes. It just says Fatal Exception DW will close and sometimes it doesn´t even do that. It just shuts off immediately.

This website I am working on is cursed. I am never meant to finish the damn thing. And on top of that I underestimated how much work was in it so am way out of pocket on it.

I have googled for answers but am not getting anywhere so far.

If you're using xp use the system restore to go back to the last time it worked properly - sometimes that will fix it. Next in line if not would be a scan disc for errors, you may have a bad sector causing the problem. If you do auto fix and that is it then you'll have to reinstall again but my experience says if you have sector/disc problems run out and get a new drive before it crashes completely.

    Just-4-Teens,

Nice find, I got a new computer a few months back, and installed DW from a purchased download over a year old. Forgot to upgrade, but I wasn't running into any bugs.

Thank you everybody. I´ll give it all a bash.

bUt... just suppose I had a friend, who had a friend, whose Great Aunt Sally had a pirate copy of a particular WYSIWYG software that kept crashing, would you say she should or should not use the above link? :)

the worst it will do is degrade your friends friends great aunt 2 a 30 day trial period, so you will have 30 days to either buy it, reinstall old version or wotever

well it might even not give you a trial version, if you used the trial on old version before registering it.
