An inquiry into the Netherlands' support for the invasion of Iraq says it was not justified by UN resolutions. The Dutch Committee of Inquiry on Iraq said UN Security Council resolutions did not "constitute a mandate for... intervention in 2003". The inquiry was launched after foreign ministry memos were leaked that cast doubt on the legal basis for the war. The report demolishes the Dutch case for supporting the invasion, says the BBC's Europe correspondent Jonny Dymond. It could also be taken to reinforce the international case against the Iraq war, he says. Can't we just be honest and admit that no one actually knows why we invaded Iraq other than...I have no idea really, wanting more control? Following our Constitution, sure the war was illegal. But funny thing about laws written on paper, guns override them pretty much every time unless people have the balls to say no. Clearly, America did not. So, someone's got the oil. Someone's making lots of money. Where is any of it though? That's the part that really isn't making sense, unless shit's that corrupt and everything is in hiding?...Or going right to China to keep them from sending their 24million men that will never be able to marry to attack us? War in itself isn't really "legal" but that's just going into altruistic utopia mode, in reality the war was legal as the citizens supported it. Now, international sanctions would make sense since America did do something illegal, but again, guns trump paper and no one has the balls to tell us to calm the fuck down. Oorah.
We know exactly why we did. 60 UN Resolutions later and no cooperation. To remove a dictator and liberate a nation from him. Basically we went there to remove a bad guy that was bad for his people and even worse for his neighbors. In doing so the region is much better off as a result. If we wanted control or oil we would have gone there, taken over, planted a flag and started pumping oil to the US. WE did not do that however. We should have, but we did not.

I never supported any war except that one when you really have no choice, but to defend yourself. The war on Iraq though removed a bad guy was not worth it. More bad guys came into play in Iraq, and IMO it was a wrong war. US can't just go all over the world and remove the bad guys. A lot of innocent people die in those wars and that fact alone is enough for me to say no. I hope US never again goes into such war.
Its complicated. Like asking why you married your ex-wife who, very clearly, is a raging bitch who is after your money, your happiness, and your life (if she can get it). Perhaps the sex was good. Maybe she used to be your bosses wife, and marrying her was payback. Maybe marrying her landed you a multi-million dollar business deal or your big break into acting. After WWII, the Germans hated the US presence on their land. After defeating the nazis, US slowly pulled its presence from Germany in a multi-year process. A few weeks ago, German Chancellor Angela Merkel gave an exciting speech, not without sheding a tear or two, in the US congress thanking America for everything it did for Germany and the German people. Maybe, if someday, the Arabs will start to educate instead of indocrinate, the president of the modern, free, liberal Iraq will make a similar speech in front of the US congress.
