THE HAGUE, Netherlands - The Dutch government said Friday it plans to draw up legislation "as soon as possible" banning full-length veils known as burqas and other clothing that covers a person's entire face in public places.

"The Cabinet finds it undesirable that face-covering clothing — including the burqa — is worn in public places for reasons of public order, security and protection of citizens,"

I read a story somewhere that there was a school with a womens dormitory and men would wear the full length veil/burqa (pretending to be women)to try to sneak in:) They ruled not to allow the full length veil/burqa to protect the residents of the dormitory.
With all that clothing and face covering, how can police ever identify if you are a wanted criminal? They cannot even tell if you are a man or woman...
I would say I am for the ban.

If things are fair and equality is respected in a religion, why it is that only women should ware the burga?
My intake on this is that:
Muslim men should ware it too, to show solidarity with the muslim women.
The muslim men should first start waring the burga, and then the muslim women will gladly follow their example.
After that we will have the whole muslim world waring burgas.
    Some the benefits will be:
There will be no need for everyone to take a picture for a passport or a driver's license. One person's photo will be good enough for all.

    Specials:
For those who want to be identified. They can draw a picture of themselves on the burga. Eh, they could draw anybody's picture on it. Many won't really know who is under the burga.

A ban is uncalled for. Ridiculous as I think wearing a burqa is, the Dutch government doesn't need to interfere in the affairs of other peoples, nor prevent them from wearing whatever they want to. A ban would probably incite further violence from the Islamic community.

Why are there no Jewish bistros in Mecca? Things aren't always fair, but you make a good point about men wearing burkas too :D

I am a catholic and i am against this ban.

They have a right to wear the Burqa just as a Christian has a right to wear a cross or a soccer fan can wear a Real Madrid shirt.

Although I consider myself affiliated with no religion now, my ID still says I am a Muslim. I am definitely for the ban. The Burqa is just ridiculous and there are no teachings in Islam that ask you to cover your face. Islam asks you to cover the hair. Covering the face is part of the culture of some Muslim countries, not Islam itself.

It is good to see that some people try to understand all the sides, like infonote, but some things are not to be tolerated. It is a no-way that any modern system can function properly with a Burqa on.

It is definitely ridiculous and a ban is most welcomed.

They surely would not do it if it were not a big problem, but it is. What guarantees who is behind the Burqa for me? It is definitely a normal innocent woman who knows little about why she is putting it on in most cases, but it could easily be the most wanted criminal by the FBI or Osama Bin Ladin. No documents can be issued with a Burqa on, and many things can not function this way.

It reminds me of what my uncle used to jokingly tell me when I was little. He used to say that the people of Japan never take pictures for documents, they just go buy them from a photographer.

Bad, I know that, but it does not hurt anybody.
