If you write an article and submit it for example to ezinearticles.com you are allowed for sure to take this article and to put it on whatever number of sites you want and which you possess. This is your content and you can not be penalized for doing that. But if visitors come to your sites and find on every site the same thing they surely would not be inclined to visit your sites again. Out of this it will be of course much better if you have unique and new content. When people see this they often put a link somewehere leading to your site. Also if you manage to put bookmark buttons on your pages your visitors will be able to easily make your site popular. If you want to reach that you have to put unique and exciting content on your site !
