Hello everyone! Here's something that really annoys me, I don't know if this is allowed or not, but this way people simply boost their post count. Here's an example:

Question: How do I edit my signature?

Member 1: Go to your cPanel and click on the Edit Signature link.

Member 2: Yes, it's in your cpanel.

Thread Starter: Thanks guys! Found it!

Member 3: It's very simple. Go to your cpanel and you'll find it there.

Member 4: Just go to your cpanel and click on the Edit Signature link

Member 5: cpanel > edit signature

    and so on...

Seriously, is this allowed? Just want to hear some older member's/mods' thoughts as I'm not an old member. :D

As soon as you have your answer you can report the thread to mods and ask them to close. By leaving the post open you are inviting other members to post.

i think a lot of the time it is basically a few members actually posting at the same time , then you get some members who only read the first post and then reply , without reading the rest of the thread :)

I personally prefer a second opinion. A third opinion generally does not bother me, anything passed that though I find it to be post whoring. I mean, if 3 people agree, and no one is disagreeing it's pretty obvious that the answer has been given correctly.

I get especially annoyed by it when Member5 in your example posts 4 or 5 days later.

Haha, yeah. I see people bumping 653 days old threads in the Chat forum :D

Thanks for the replies, everyone, so you say it's ok to report such threads? :)

According to me, it varies from different type of Questions.
Like some questions are very tough, or I mean very important.. that the most member agree to it the better. The Example you specified should not be allowed to continue if the Person has found the answer to his question already.

    Best Regards,
    Kulwinder.

    Yeah, that's what I mean. ;)

If someone asks "How do I promote my site" then of course he/she will get different replies.

If nothing was added accept one line that's been said several times before, then I see no reason why should not be reported.

Though, keep in mind the differences between adding something to an old thread, and bumping an old thread to increase post count.

The bumping and duplicate rules, kind of overlap and have resulted in a few innocent infractions  ;)

I am not sure it should an infractions, it should really be up to the thread starter to ask for the thread to be closed or to at least post that they have the answer. In the case you posted, the thread starer did post that and unless the following answers were with-in a couple a minutes, then it should be reported but not a huge fan of over censuring the forum.
The main issue is that people do not read the thread, they just look for someplace to post and just post without looking at any responses. Sometimes they don't even look at the original question.

I often like three opinions on a subject, I dont mind, and actually often it is necessary, some people just dont know what they talk about. I have even done that myself, answered a question I was sure of, then 2-3 other people prove me wrong

I agree with that, most of the time I will have like 6 different threads opened at a time on a different tab and take my time to reply.
