Hi, I'm planning a web site that will generate most of the new content from registered users, and I have a "duplicated content" issue. The new content will be places as a new page in "category 1" and also as a new thread on forum. All the site content (including the forum) will be visible to SE spider. I assume that forum thread will receive new replies the forum page would be concerned different then the page in "category 1" but I'm not sure it's the safe way or that all new forum threads will get a reply… I can add little different titles such date, user name and maybe three more variables but 95% from the text will be the same… Do you have any solution/ thought that will assure the SE won't consider it as duplicated content site? Thanks
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Make sure the forum thread links to the source article and you will be fine.
the thing with duplicated content is that you must be careful if more then 4-5 links go to the same content pages....don't forget..most blogs for example have archive pages, which can be considered duplicate ...so it's safe
the example that you give will not hurt your site. search engines will index those pages but they will not send visitors until you fill those categories
