How does Google determines that the content is duplicated? If I have few sentences on my website which are identical to someone else's on another website, will it do me any harm? How about if only half of the page is duplicated and another one is unique?
"Few sentences" cannot harm your site ranking nor make your page looking duplicated neither. However, I would recommend you remain at least 50% unique to be the best. Actually, there is no real penalty for "duplicated content" as we might ever know. Most of duplicated content can archive a good ranking if its domain has enough link popualrity, or those page has built enough link popularity toward it. The one with less link or authoritative status will have a lower rank or defined as "Omitted Result".
