Duplicate, triplicate, quadruplicate, sextuplicate notifications

    The problem of duplicate email notifications from DP threads is getting progressively worse. It started a few months back with duplicate notifications. Then it advance to triplicates. A little while back, I reached a milestone with four notifications, then shortly afterward five. Today, I received six (6!) copies of this:

    For the record, I post and get notifications from several forums. This does NOT happen anywhere else. It doesn't happen with every thread - maybe 1 in 6 or 7 or 1 in 10 to 12 - not sure. Sometimes, I have the impression it picks out the least interesting posts to duplicate or sextuplicate :eek:

    That can't be helping your server problems, Shawn.

    I nevr noticed it, all my thread replies notifications come to my GMail account, so for one particular thread all emails are just listed under one thread. I love GMail for this feature.

    But I *like* getting notifications. It's just that the DP ones are more like nagging than notifying: "Did you see that thread yet? I *told* you to read that thread. You always procrastinate like this. You're going to be late for your own funeral. bla bla bla yada yada yada."

    "Yes, mom."

    This is a hand coded Mod by Shawn and is your punishment for subscribing to stupid threads :p

    if dp_member subscribes = title."Just for fun"
    {send "notification"=4}
    if dp_member subscribes = title."wacko"
    {send "notification"=6}
    else
    {send "notification"=1}

    Glad to see i'm not the only one!

    It happened to me 4 times (3 times was a duplicate and once a triplicate). I hope I will never receive 6...

    Regards,
    Ludo

    I think I've pinned it down to the mail system on the server (postfix). vBulletin is not sending multiple messages to the mail server, but it's passing the same message off more than once in some rare cases.

    Not really sure how to fix it since I really doubt there is some setting to cause it in postfix. The new servers are on the way, so we'll see what happens with those I guess...

    Outlook express has the same feature.
    Just one shown with all others under it.
    Does make it cleaner and so much easier to have that feature.
    No more 100 emails of the same thing, now just one.

    I just received 2 seperate PMs about 10 minutes apart. I have email notification set up for PMs and both times I received 2 emails for each PM. Is DP drunk and sending double?;)
