Duplicate Title Tag!

Discussion in 'Microdata' started by jaihanu, Nov 26, 2021.

Hello- I have found out from the SEO audit report that I have a duplicate meta title and description on about 19 pages. What is the best way to resolve this situation from a google point of view:

Should I change the title tag and redirect them to a new page?

If you found a duplicate meta title and description issue then you must set the appropriate and separate title to each page.

Sumit- thank you for your quick response. that means all the URLs will redirect if I change the meta title for each page. Correct?

Can you share your website URL so I can go through it once?

    Jaihanu,
    There is no easy fix.
You will have to go into each of these pages and change the title:

    <title>Whatever you put there</title>
    HTML:
    And the description Meta tag

<meta name="description" content="The description of the page you put between these quotation marks">
    HTML:
This has nothing to do with the URLs - Title and Meta tags are not dependant on URLs - or vice versa

--- unless of course you are using some stupid, third rate, code generator.

Make a list of the URLs that have duplicate Meta Title issues and change the Title of the particular page accordingly.

Here is an example of one duplicate title tag. Two URLs with the same title tag.

Got it, here are two different directories one is Product and the one is Pages.
In the Product Category, you have listed the same Product with the same name as in the Pages category. To fix it first do the Keyword Research and choose keywords wisely or add the keywords for that you want to rank for.
I suggest you to choose the Product Category Keyword like Buy Organic Garlic Granules, Buy Online Granules etc, and for the Pages Category (for which the page is made for).

The problem is, as I assumed earlier, third rate code generators. In your case “Shopify”.

The generator creates duplicate content. As a result you have your page in the "products" subdirectory competing with your page in the "pages" subdirectory. Since both of them are now "fighting" for attention (and dividing what the get between them) – your competitors will pull ahead in SEO ranking.

Using different product key keywords (as suggested above) is not the solution. Even if you do this, the content will remain the same and you will be (SEO) downgraded for having duplicate content.

The ideal solution in your case is to define one of the two directories as "no-follow"

Hello. I have crawled the website with Smart SEO Auditor (I have developed it). It found a lot of issues.
    upload_2021-11-28_15-32-14.png
You definitely need to fix all of them.
I don't think you need to redirect to a new page. It is enough to fix an issue on a page, update the timestamp in sitema.xml and wait. For me, it works.
