My google webmaster tools showing my site contain '22 pages Duplicate meta descriptions' !!

    How to avoid this problem.

My site not coming in google search result for 1-month. before 1-month it was in 1st page! so what is going on?

Is this problem occurred by duplicate meta description or else.

my PR was 4 now it is 3. [this happened within three days]

So how can i get my site in 1st page in google?? [my site is working well for yahoo, bing & others search engine].

I'm waiting for your valuable reply.

    Thanks.

Just write different meta descriptions for the pages that have the duplicates - it's not rocket science.
But IFlogics is right - having duplicate meta descriptions is not 'best practice' , but it's not what's caused your site to drop put of serps or lose PageRank.

<meta> descriptions and keywords are NOT factors in how Google's ranking algorithm ranks your URLs for keywords. It definitely has nothing to do with the duplicate descriptions.

If your PR dropped then 1) you are getting credit for fewer links or 2) the links you have are passing you less PR than before or 3) both. It could be that URLs linking to you have been dropped out Google's index or that they have been penalized or devalued for some reason. Perhaps pages that link to you are now passing less PR because they have more outbound links or because their inbound links are now weaker or no longer being counted... Could be a million things.

How old is the site you're talking about? Could be the Google "honeymoon" if your site is only 2-3 months old. Could have taken them a month or so to index, then you had good rankings for a few weeks because of the Google "honeymoon", then you fell back in the SERPs where you should have ranked all along.

    Hard to say.

I don't think having duplicate meta descriptions is the cause why your ranking drops in Google. Ranking fluctuation is natural given the competition in SE. There's a possibility that you have mistakenly linked to a bad neighborhood. Build more quality links for your site to get your ranking back.

Even though I don't think your duplicate metatags was the cause of the drop in your PR, I suggest you get it fixed. In Webmaster Tools, you can see what pages have duplicate description. You can either change the description or, if the pages have duplicate content, remove one from google using Robots.txt. That worked for me the best.
