I write articles for the automotive community. If I post an article on several of my sites, will it mark all of my sites down? Or will just some of my sites get indexed better for the article than others? Is having duplicate content something that actually hurts you, or is it just that you could do better if you did not have duplicate content? Thanks, Andy
Take a look at my google rank for an article I did "EDC Diamond to Become the Wave of the Future" . Use the keyword "EDC Diamond" which is extremely competitive in the work at home and online business opportunities market. I can definately PM you more info on how I put mine above everybody's if you need. Thanks, Dale
I always suggest having variations of an article if it is posted on your own blogs or sites. You will sometimes be amazed how many keyword variations or longtail keywords you may discover. It's best not to use the same article over and over on your own sites.
Thanks! Do you think it will actually hurt them though? Or will one site just do better than the rest for that article?
I have to STRONGLY disagree. For best seo results you must use the same exact article on the top blog and article sites.
Why do you say that redcyc? I've always had the impression that a little variation is the best way to go?
i put my main article on my blog, squidoo/hubpage, and then submit this one to the main article directories. then i will spin the article's content and submit it to the minor directories. another good tip is break up the content of the article when posting it to your blog, squidoo/hubpage. that way you can have a few posts from one article.
Site never gets a ranking. Page gets a rank, so If you are targeting a keyword, write a unique article for your target keyword you want to rank. Write few more articles with your target keyword as anchor text in these articles and use these articles for posting on article sites and blogs. These articles are not needed to be very targeted as you don't want them to rank. you are just using them to get targeted backlinks. Tharani
With article submission, you really should submit your site to as many places as you can for maximum exposure, and copy and pasting is a really fast way to do that. It's not good for SEO supposedly, but I haven't had a problem with it since I submit it to so many places. Just make sure that your site is the first place that it is posted so your site gets ranked at top for your article title in yahoo and msn searches. Whereas, Google doesn't care about originality as much, and will just place the more popular sites up on top. Not all of the duplicate articles get grouped out of the searches because other sites often put ads right smack in the middle of your article...or cut it off and provide a link. That's why it's important to make most of your keywords in your title and first sentence. At this point, the duplicate content filters suck, so just go click crazy. Plus, you can't ignore the click through traffic you might get from having your link on a lot of sites. If you want a list of article directories, I'll give you a link to my database for a manual submission tool I'm making for my viewers.
This is what the head of Google Spam Team Matt Cutts says; "My advice would be 1) to avoid over-syndicating the articles that you write, and 2) if you do syndicate content, make sure that you include a link to the original content. That will help ensure that the original content has more PageRank, which will aid in picking the best documents in our index" and here is the link mattcutts.com/blog/duplicate-content-question/
