Duplicate Content

I had my site banned on Google for the use of a link manager that they consider a link farm.

I have come to the conclusion that my site will never be re-indexed and I am faced with launching a new URL specifically for Google.

The site that was banned on Google has top ranking on Yahoo & MSN, along with the bulk of the other major search engines. So I do not want to drop this URL, only add a new one for Google.

    My question;

How much content on the old site needs to be changed on the new URL so that it will not be penalized for duplicate content when it is indexed by Yahoo for example.

I have close to 1400 pages, can I assume that only the index page will need to be changed?

    Thanks,

    Jack

I had experimented with several small sites which would be deemed similar enough to humans. But they never were banned even after someone reported to Google. These were small sites maybe 10 pages or so.

    1. the web site html physical layout was the same. But color and text size were different.
    2. the header banner was different (looks, size, etc)
    3. Text was nearly 90% the same.
    4. The branding was different.

I dont know Google's algorithm, but would believe a 1400 page site could get more attention from Google than a 10 page site, and you could try to
    1. change page load size by using a different header banner
    2. If you use the same menu or footer on all pages, modify it to be different from your other site. Or use dynamic anchor text. That is, 'Home' link would appear randomly displayed as 'Home', 'Real Estate Home', 'Finance Home', etc...
    3. Use different layout color (background, etc)
    4. Vary the content text as much as possible especially on index and first click pages.

Although there would be remaining duplicate text pages, I dont think the site would be banned, but it may take a lot more effort to be valued as you'd like.

It seems an unnecessary pain to create a whole duplicate site... Is it possible to remove what google didn't like (as that is the problem) and submit for re-inclusion.
