Duplicate content

    I have a question about all the lyrics, jokes, poems, etc..... sites out. 90% of them all have the exact same content but they are all indexed and in the SEs.

    How is this possible? I thought the SEs were cracking down on duplicate content?

    Duplicate content penalties are not as serious as a lot of SEO types try and make it out to be... i.e. I doubt you'll be banned.

    But I imagine having the exact same content as others will make i harder to rank higher than whomever got the content indexed first.

    What if you have several sites...and you utilize the same "content"...but present it differently to the user...so each "site" has it's own look/feel.

    Anyone have any thoughts/insite into how Google, etc, feel about such a thing?
