hi, i am the webmaster for a travel website www.flyingkiwi.com and we are just about to launch a new site. however, a few travel agents have asked us to create a dead end site (basically a complete replica but with no contact details that they can link to). i am a bit worried that such a duplicate site could damage the rankings of our actual one, any tips on how to go about this and what kind of url strucure to use ( a sub-domain, new site entirely etc) any help would be much appreciated thanks neil
ah sorry, may not have been clear. i am actually the one who will make the dead end site (exact copy but with no contact details for the agents to use) so copyright isnt the issue, the worry is having two versions of the site (one with and one without contact details)floating around and if that could negatively affect the rankings
the backlinks that you will be placing on your website will link back to you ... and not to the dupicate site ... so I guess there should be no worries regarding this.... And google does recignize such sites...so chill !!
u can use robots.txt file for ur new site. Google bot can only crawl ur new site but it is not going to index it.
thanks for that and sounds like a nice idea, how would i go about doing that and would you recommend putting the site under a different url or a sub domain?
IMO... and strongly not to allow duplicated content on different domains. 1. second domain wont get listed in SERP. you can try if not belief
