Duplicate Content

    Hello.

We all know and see many blogs around where we see duplicate articles or content.

Actually some websites do share content from other sites which are basically blogs. Even on my site, some articles are written by our authors and some brought to our viewers from other sites after a bit of modification according to our need.

Now I have 2 blogs, one is technology specific and one is a News blog.

The news blog has a category of technology too. So what I post for Technology blog also fits the category of the news blog. I have seen here that Google wants unique content,

    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66361

So now, how will both my Articles on 2 different sites be considered as ?

You should avoid duplicate contents in both websites and you should maintain your both websites in two different points for same niche. Thanks for asking this question

I would try my best to do that.

But would it be possible that in the 2nd blog where I post, I give the credit to where I brought it from.

Like giving the original link of the post at the end of the line. I feel it difficult to write separate posts for 2 different blogs although both are mine. I understand the content should be unique. But is there any way of avoiding things and getting it done ? Like what hardly would be the disadvantage ?

Like a way to modify bit of the content like some lines and avoiding Google to consider it as Duplicate. Like what's the technically criteria of Google considering something to be duplicate ?

That'll work if the domain is on a different c-class server and has different who is info, different google analytics, etc.. But to get it to work with duplicate content or content that isn't spun, you'll have to mix it with other relevant content. So your second site would be a kind of hub for that niche or a collection of all of the articles about the niche. Of course you'd include your articles more prevalent. But if you don't have a huge network, it's not really worth it. You help you and your competition barely giving you an advantage.

I suppose your two sites have different HTML code, different images, video, footers, links, etc. So if you want to have an article published on both and still indexed it would be enough to change the title a little bit and the first and last paragraph. You can even use an article spinner like The Best Spinner.

Yeah, that's the way I see it too, but let me take a few steps back.

Everyone is going to have their "OWN" opinion when it comes to Duplicate content, but as far as I'm concerned it's a bunch of crap from how most webmasters classify it. From my own experience, I have copied and pasted several articles onto my site from other sites and nothing has ever happened. Actually, I have been climbing the SERPs ever since I started doing it. :) ....... And, I don't change anything, but, I also offer "UNIQUE CONTENT" as well.

The only time its Duplicate Content, and you might be penalized for it, is when the same Title or Description or Article or anything else of that nature is on your site TWICE.

Such as: Duplicate Title Tags - Duplicate Description Tags - Duplicate Article Body Tags. And the way to find this out is by getting your self hooked up with Google's Webmaster Tools and following the advice and errors given to you there - to better maximize your efforts

I have even gone as far as looking for other sites that use my content, from my site, post it on theirs and rank higher than me for the same targeted keywords. GO FIGURE!

To be honest you have hit the bolt right on the spot. I also think that way and I really appreciate your view about this. I did this too and perhaps I got caught just for using the same meta tag, description etc. Actually my noob author did that due to which Google penalized my site and I penalized him.

So I am gonna work on your strategy. Modify everything in meta tag, title description etc. Also modify bit of a post if you can, and post it . That does not mean you copy all stuff. You should also have unique content. At-least 10-30% should be a fully unique content. Google Web master tools ( HTML suggestions ) gives you the best info about it .

I also appreciate the use of the BEST Spinner to mix up the post a bit. Any links of it and how it works ? Like it should get past the Duplicate stamp!

But I just need to get my site back in Google somehow.

The results are not how they should be. Searching "mixupdate" once brought my main site on top of Google with all my rest topics in the "View all my results from this site" button. Now my link is 7th without any other posts. I really need to do something. Basically I don't even know why it happened. I personally think its due to the downtime. Someone said it's due to the Color of the menu which is grey on gey ( hidden ) although not. A guy also said about Duplicate issue but only Google can answer what's the issue. Anyways I have submitted a reconsideration with a reason it won't be down now .

Definitely Duplicate content can harm your site and it could be sent to the sandbox or sometimes be penalized by search Engines like Google.

    Thanks

    Yes I will now!

But just tell me a way I can bring my website back.

Give me a crack or something too or a download link for " The Best Spinner " .

Not sure if it's a software that tops the Spinning list. So give me the best one out there.

The Best Spinner is TheBestSpinner, In my opinion... No cracks or anything like that, but, its very cheap for a whole year. You would get your monies worth just by spinning your first 10 articles. Hands Down!

    Yes I agree with you.
We should avoid duplicate content in all kind of promotions like article and blog writing.

You can write duplicate contents. That may be anything articles, blog post or anything else. But do not forget to give the reference of the site from where you have copied.

You can post same content or modified them but make sure to put there the source of the articles or the content you are publishing.

    Well.

I have seen blogs like techcrunch.com and engadget.com

Both have an Alexa ranking below 300 by far. These websites bring content to theirs from other websites and mention a source where it's brought from. And first of all as you said they should not be penalized for duplicate content since they're actually giving credit to the source by giving out the link.

But how do they get a better rank than those where they actually get content from ? It of course means there Search Engine rankings are quite strong with strong backlinks and content. Does that mean Google gives credit to those even without Unique content ? If yes, I am gonna do the same and just mention the source where I bring it from.

Also I think they modify the content a bit to make it unique and still give out a source of links to be double protected. So google still sees their content as Unique giving them better results and due to the Source it never even scans it for Duplicate content . How about that for a deal ?

I'm new to this stuff but I think I'm learning a lot and getting the bricks right.. Your help is what I need.

Duplicate content has been a long discussed concern for which no one knows the exact result. We have seen one article, syndicated or scraped to many sites - all indexed. We have also seen the opposite of it where one article was copied but not getting enough Google love as it gets for the original. All in all, I'd say let the search engines work the way they've been programmed to; produce as much content as possible, ensuring basic requirements such as grammar, punctuations etc and use them in your two blogs with slight changes. As recommended by other members, it's good if you can host them in different IPs. Just don't worry about this issue too much and give up/limit producing the content.

    Good Luck! :)
