    Hello,

I write articles and have put them on my website. I also submit them to ezinearticles.com to get backlinks is this not a good idea? I hear google penalize for duplicate content.

    Many Thanks

Yes it does! Now remember this tip forever!

Whenever you post content on your site as well as others, try to de-optimize the articles a little bit and then post them on others. why? because you don't want those sites to get ranked for THOSE keywords! right?

    Another tip!

Let your site/article page get indexed first and then start publishing it on others. It is highly possible that those sites get crawled on regular and faster pace then yours.

    Like it ? :)

    Cheers

on the same thought, just in case it isn't obvious. re-word and change the structure of your article on the article site

I think that is stupid because yes you want to write good articles to draw people's attention on ezinearticles to get traffic but then use cannot use your hard work on your actual site. It is a lose lose situation.

Should I add my articles on my robots.txt file to stop google crawling the articles on my site?

    Thanks

Do I get penalized if people take my article from ezinearticles.com and use it on their site which frequently happens..?

Post your article to your site/blog , then allow it to be indexed , once your post has been indexed submit it to article directories to generate backlinks. This method works well for me and you will not be penalized for DP

Jasonb25 is right. I do the same with my blog articles. Before I post it in ezine sites, I let them indexed first. It is still safer to rephrase some parts of your content before posting them into other networks

Google never penalizes duplicate content. There was a Q&A online chat session held by Google and webmasters on 22 Oct 2008 to clear doubts.

One of the question ask by webmasters was this :

Sandeep Khetan, India: Duplicate content is always penalized by search engines.
Then what is the reason that duplicate news content spread across many sub-domains from yahoo.com and many other popular sites does not gets penalized ?
JohnMu: Hi Sandeep, as far as I know, none of the search engines penalize duplicate content -- they just ignore the duplicates.

You can read more on the live chat in here

Google penalized duplicate content has always been a myth I guess. This myth has been lifted since the livechat so do spread this around if you could. Hope this answers your question.

amosgoh is right. To some websmasters, however, ignoring the duplicates can just mean another form of "penalty"
