I believe this will help you...from Google webmasters help.

"Google tries hard to index and show pages with distinct information. This filtering means, for instance, that if your site has a "regular" and "printer" version of each article, and neither of these is blocked in robots.txt or with a noindex meta tag, we'll choose one of them to list. In the rare cases in which Google perceives that duplicate content may be shown with intent to manipulate our rankings and deceive our users, we'll also make appropriate adjustments in the indexing and ranking of the sites involved. As a result, the ranking of the site may suffer, or the site might be removed entirely from the Google index, in which case it will no longer appear in search results."

I suggest that you submit your articles to directories after Google index those articles. That way, you do not have to worry about duplicate content as Google will first find these articles in your site.

Why take the chance? Just get rid of anything that might be seen as duplicate!

It's always safe and advisable to come out on your own original content.:)

Never put an article on your site AND submit it to article submission sites. Even if you make sure that Google indexes the article on your site first and THEN submit the same article to other sites... they may consider the version on your site the original NOW... but things can happen later and they could possibly change which they consider the original... I would never chance that Google will ALWAYS see mine as the original.

If you write an article for your site but want to do article submission to farm a backlink for your article then write a brand new 2nd article... from scratch... and submit the 2nd article to ONE submission site.

If you want 3 backlinks then write a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th article... each unique... and submit each of them to a single different submission site.
