Does google penalize you if you have the some of the same content on multiple pages within your own site? Example: Home page has a few sentences from other pages, to kind of give a description of the page. Thanks
If it was a few sentences then I doubt it'd matter, as most sites (forums specifically) have the copyright line on every page - which obviously doesn't matter. As long as each page isn't full of paragraphs and paragraphs of the same thing, then I think it'd be alright.
Thanks! That's what I assumed. I just didn't want to keep with this project if I was just going to get blacklisted. Thanks again.
To make things just perfect when you have those the same sentences and paragraphs, use rel=canonical. Learn more here: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html
For Google there is no such concept of "duplicate content on the same site". The only "penalization" you may get is that G will value more one page of your site from those which have the same content.
