Duplicate Content With in Own Website

    Does google penalize you if you have the some of the same content on multiple pages within your own site? Example: Home page has a few sentences from other pages, to kind of give a description of the page. Thanks

    If it was a few sentences then I doubt it'd matter, as most sites (forums specifically) have the copyright line on every page - which obviously doesn't matter. As long as each page isn't full of paragraphs and paragraphs of the same thing, then I think it'd be alright. :)

    supposingly the new update is that full duplicate content doesn't matter anymore

    For Google there is no such concept of "duplicate content on the same site". The only "penalization" you may get is that G will value more one page of your site from those which have the same content.
