Hey I recently have been placing articles on my site, editing here and their, adding h1 and h3 tags, colors, images, making it better readable - copyscape shows some of them are linked with other sites - so its definitely duplicate content and I think for this reason I have been removed from search engines - my question is - can I get back up if I remove the content - or should I put a thanks to credits on each article?
You should have some unique content on your site, if you do not have any unique content on your site you may run into some problems with google.
Well you see, Google is disregarding the content you have that is duplicate. I am going to assume you are using a blog format, because if that content is displayed on the front page, Google will essentially discredit the page as a credible source. Which is bad because this is your index- something that should have the most credibility. Try this out for fun: Make a new page that has duplicate content (even duplicate content you've altered), but take all duplicate content that may be on your front page out. You'll notice your index will get much more traffic over the next few months than your test page, even if it is optimized for SEs and the index isn't. Best thing to learn from this experiment: making your own theories and testing them makes SEO fun, and eventually makes you a cut above the rest. Have at it, and good luck!
Best way, get unique content with some duplicate content with link back to copied site, i dont think so google will penalize if you do so.
I disagree for two reasons: 1 - Google is NOT penalizing him in the first place, they are only filtering out the duplicate content. This is not necessarily a penalty, it's poor webmaster tactics. In all fairness, he shouldn't be in SERPs at all with duplicate content. 2 - Duplicate content in general is just a bad idea, even if you mix in unique content. It shows you are not dedicated to your readers, you are just looking for the prize at the end of the road. And in reality, you are cheating yourself; how many authority websites do you see with a majority of their content being duplicated? Given, some news websites are still authority-stricken, but you'll also have to agree that there are very few news websites most people visit these days. (CNN, MSN, Yahoo, and Google are the only ones I ever visit, and even then the news stories there are quite differentiated) Moral of the story: duplicate content is filtered for a reason. Why try to get around Google's filters just to attract visitors that your website won't keep?
you could read the contents you want to copy but if you want to put it on your own site then you should be translating it on your own words.
Remove the duplicate one, and add more unique content to get back the rankings. It can take some time now. As always, also try to build more quality links.
I say use no duplicate content. I use a writer who is the best and he only charges me five bucks for an article, my newest name on ezinearticles I just added four of his articles and all were expert author. What I am saying is ghost writers are fairly inexpensive and it pays for itself. If you need my writers email, just pm me, he charges 5 for under five hundred words and ten for large articles. Here is proof of expert and articles http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Nick_W._Savage
Thanks guys for all this. Really need to sort it out then. Its not fair though really, our competitors have blasted their keywords all over the site, I mean like It just goes on like that.. terrible.. and yet they are higher in rankings. they have a new domain, less links..
Dup content penalty is not what you seem to think it is, read this article for more info: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1248069/myths_about_google_duplicate_content.html?cat=15 Seems like a lot of people overreact to dup content, it is not as black and white as you think. I have a lot of autoblogs (75% dupe content) that hold good spots in Google for good key phrases and get a lot of traffic.
Duplicate content can be good if you want to LEAD people to useful content. Leading people to good content that they may have not read before is a great way to help your readers. All people who use duplicate content are not just people who are looking for the prize at the end of the road. But it seems like the guy that started this thread is looking for the prize at the end of the road!
If you don't want to have duplicate content on your site then just take it off, replace it with unique content and then submit your RSS feed to the search engines and it will be crawled and ranked again according to the new content. If you don't have an rss, then you need to build 1 link on another page that you know will be crawled within 24 hours, just post a link in your signature here on DP, or start a thread and post your link in it. That will get your site crawled within hours and you will be ranking again.
My idea is for copy content from other site, dont past as its is, just read one pargraph then type by yourself. This will not be duplicate bcz while typing many diff from original. But if once get penalized from google dont think to come back even rewrite or resubmit whatever do. better if the site is not so old make a new domain and work from the begning
