Duplicate Content - Reporting?

    Hi,

We are a UK business which has produced 2 websites which both rank very well on google, both of which have original written content (not taken from other websites).

Our industry throughout the UK is highly competitive, and several competitors have decided to copy our content (and in one instance someone actually created a website which mimicked ours in layout, style and colouring, with our content and imagery, and forgot to replace our company name with their own!).

My concern, is we have spent alot of time optimizing our site and campaigns to rank well for our keywords, and I don't want to run the risk of google picking up duplicate content from our competitors - and devaluing our site for it.

Is there anyway sites who do this can be reported? I know in Webmaster tools there is an option for spam reporting but nothing about duplicate content.

Or am i wrong in thinking this could harm our rankings?

I look forward to your help!

    Thanks

Send the hosting provider a few letters about copyright infringement. See if you can get the sites taken down, then you dont have to worry about duplicate content.

Besides that, there are several factors to come into play to decide which site gets the duplicate content penalty. Google is smart enough to know when new sites are ripping older sites articles. Lets say that a page rank 5 site that is 4 years old post an article. And then a 1 month old site, page rank 0 site copies the article. Google should give the new site the penalty. Mainly because google trust older sites more then new sites.

I have heard that the google duplicate content is a myth. I am still not sure but I have done it before and have not seen any penalty! :)

Talk to the website owner and also to the hosting provider.
Then you can report the same issue to Google. I think it will consider it.
