Duplicate Content Questions

Day by day, Internet is flooded with many websites with the dup content. Almost time, Google will ban your sites on search engine ranking. Anyways, to create a fresh content to an informative website is not easy.

I intend to copy some articles from some parts of a book, so i wonder I will be banned by Google or sued by the author of the book?

If not, how can I place source for the articles.

    Thank you very much!

See wikipedia how they place the reference of their article.
Rules aren't that strict generally people get away with dup.

When referencing work from others, it's best to use the Harvard style -

    For books go with...
AUTHOR(S) (Year) Title. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher.

    I hope this helps.

    Kat :)

Give credit to place from you are copying material & you will be doing good, many people copy content & dont give credit to the original author and that creates all the problems.

The duplicated content only will be detected if you copy the source without edit it.

I think a lot of people now credit internet sources with titles and hyperlinks. Anyway it should be that simple. But then, a lot of publishers still require snail mail submissions so, some people aren't ready to make the transition to "hyperspace" :)

So if you could generally get away with murder, would you kill someone?

Seriously... just because you can get away with it doesn't mean you should. It's illegal and it's wrong. Always properly credit your sources. To be 100% protected, I suggest getting permission from the original source.

Google doesn't ban you for duplicate content.

What happens is the pages get lower rank in the SERPs generally.

Yes, you can be sued for copying parts of a book REGARDLESS of your attribution.

Here's an easy solution: contact the person to get permission.

    Problem solved. Move on.

I couldn't agree more. Contacting the person who owns the work not only solves your initial problem, but also has the added benefit of actually increasing your network. That person may be interested in what you do, and give you link love, an exclusive interview, or another contact. When you actually speak to people the possibilities are often endless!
