I have a question about duplicate content.. I have a blog, lets say at www.widget.com - I have another blog ran at www.widget.com/blue-widgets/ - I have the RSS feed from www.widget.com/blue-widgets/ running on www.widget.com - I hope this makes sense...if so... Would i get penalized for duplicate content since its on my own site?

the page which is indexed second for that content will most likely be added to the supplemental results

pages with the same content as another site are seen by google as duplicates, therefore it can't have them both at the top of the results as they aim to provide varying results.

The first one that is indexed is seen as the one that had the content first (therefore the original) and the other one is then added to google's supplemental results which are rarely ever seen unless there's not enough results to be shown for a specific search.

Google knows who owns the content, so if the site also your's they won't penalized you but the second content that was indexed by SE will be in supplemental result.

If both pages are near identical then chances are that Google will take one of them into the supplement's index cos of duplicate content.

    Totally false.

Google does not know who owns the content, and being "the first" does not mean you won't be thrown in to the supplemental if another page duplicates your content.

I've proven this time and time again. Just a few weeks ago i had this "discussion" with a friend who also said it's whoever is first. In order to prove this to him, i copied his 100% original article (with permission to prove the concept) that was on a PR2 page and his site's homepage was PR5.

The article had been online 9 months. I duplicated it on to my site that had PR7/6/5 backlinks and in about 30 hours he was sitting in supp and mine was the viewable page out of the1 of 2 results using "various keyword sentences" in the article for exact matching searches.

If it is an RSS feed, then no - you will not be penalized.

if you are aware of penaltiy, better treat the minor site as the link page. put half content there and then make a link back to the main page. this way was use by many webmaster who own a site and a blog. you get a back link for free. ^^
