Hello, I am about to finish coding my custom CMS for my site, one of the features I want thinking of adding is to have content when added to a category, if that category is linked to one of my forums on my sites to automatically post the content to the forum. The problem is, will this flag as duplicate content even if its on my same site, potentially this will create lots of activity on the forums if every article I write or page gets added to the forum that it was added to. I can also code something in so that it points to the forum with a link, so.. I guess like a 'Discuss here' at the bottom.. I am just not sure how I should allow people to comment on the article, either entirely on the forum and not on the page with the article.. so that I have : Create Page with Article on main site. It then creates a post on my vbulletin forum and links to it in the article. Then allow separate discussion on the forum and the article by comments? Or syncronise all comments displayed on the forum with all of my comments on the main article. This is a lot of duplicate content in which case but its all on my site. Any idea?
Huh, my head is spinning after reading this. A little incoherent. I wouldn't worry too much about duplicate content. One of the two copies is going to rank while the other one may be buried. I still haven't quite understood the concept though. I simply have comments on one of my sites and those look similar to the forum. So people can discuss an article with comments. You could also have an abstract (like first paragraph) generated for the forum and keep the discussion there (with a link underneath the abstract like read more that leads to the article). Then you have the headlines of the discussions under the article with a link discuss here. Overall I think you worry too much.
Thanks, thats probably not a bad idea. I will think about not displaying all the content. I just want to make sure, because if i am generating thousands of pages of content I dont want duplicate content penalties if its easily avoided
