Quick question on duplicate content across multiple sites. If I have 3 massage sites all targeting different US states ie seattlemassage.com Atlantamassage.com Oaklandmassage.com do I get penalised if they all have the same content on each of them? They would all target different cities obviously but the content could be very similar. ie 'best massage in seattle' or 'best massage in Atlanta' etc Any suggestions or thoughts on the good and bad of this strategy?
Yes you could be penalized. You need and should have unique content for each of the individual sites. Spend a little money and hire a copy-writer to create unique content for your site, it's really worth it because google will only credit one of the sites for the content. How the duplicate content will effect your sites is to be determined. If each website is a specific location-based website it may not effect it much, but in the end you shouldn't look for shortcuts (eg using the same copy).
yep u are absolutely right. google dont know that this site is made bye same firm so it is just considered as dumping factors..and you could be penalize for that issue.so be careful.best luck
I figured so much but always good to get the thoughts of marketers on this forum in particular. I will look to create unique content as its the only way to go long term. Appreciate your feedback.
duplicate content will not harm you, but it won't help much either. There is duplicate content all over the net and if it hurt you, thousands of websites wouldn't be ranking at all. Like I said, it won't help you much though, so it's best to rewrite and/or spin them a bit.
Yes, always use unique content on your primary sites. In general unique content should be used no matter what, but especially on your primary site you are trying to rank for.
