Hello all I paid for a premium use batch run of copyscape and it scanned 1500 pages of my website at www.themariobros.net I found some 200-300 pages which were orange or red risk level for duplicate content. Upon investigating these pages I found that the reason for a lot of the duplicate warnings was this sort of thing For example, we have a section about the videogame SUPER MARIO BROS 2. As part of our game sections we have the story from each game (official story, from the games manual). Obviously because this is the official story from the game, every man and his dog have it on their sites- in some cases even like eBay and Amazon list it, Wikipedia might sometimes list it etc. I am 99% sure google are penalising my domain heavily for these duplication issues, but what can I do? Is there some other way I could display "official source" texts? Do I Really have to actually display the text as images? :/ The vast majority of my content is original and excellent quality, because this site isnt a quick moneymaking job - its a real fan site that I'm very proud of - but the bits of official Storyline etc and game information from Nintendo we do quote is important as parts of our sections. Do I really have to get rid of it because of google algorithms? :-/ Any advice as to what to do with a situation like this? Luke
Best thing to do would surely be to rewrite the product descriptions in your own original words instead of copy and pasting and providing duplicate content which will be seen as offering no additional value (to the original content wherever that maybe) and then be all the more harder to rank and as you say may be getting seen as an issue. That would be what I would think to do first.
Thanks for your reply Relevations-Decoder. Can I give you an example of what I have to contend with, and what I think might help based on peoples feedback This is the official story written in the game manual of Super Mario World and how I display it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After saving the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser and the rest of the Koopas in Super Mario 3, Mario and Luigi needed to recuperate from their adventures. Together they agreed that the best place to vacation was a magical place called Dinosaur Land. But while Mario and Luigi reclined on the beach for a relaxing nap, Princess Toadstool disappeared, apparently seized by evil forces. After searching for hours for their missing friend, Mario and Luigi came upon an enormous egg in the forest.Suddenly the egg hatched, and out popped a young dinosaur named YOSHI, who proceeded to tell Mario and Luigi a sad tale of how his dinosaur pals who were sealed in similar eggs by a group of monsterous turtles."Monsterous turtles!," exclaimed Luigi. "Bowser and his bunch have returned!" Mario slowly nodded his head in agreement and, along with Luigi and Yoshi, set off across Dinosaur Land to find the Princess and to free Yoshi's friends. As they began their journey, Yoshi handed Mario a beautifulcape. "This may help you," Yoshi said. "Some say it has magical powers."With a little luck (and help from a magic cape), our hearty crew can defeat the seven worlds of Bowser's Krazy Koopa Kritters. Many locations are well-hidden so explore everywhere and try everything. Not all locations have to be explored to rescue the dinosaurs and save Princess Toadstool, but there are many "starry" treasures to be found in far-reaching places. You'll need to search all areas to find out what kinds of treasure are there... in Super Mario World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the official story that I typed myself and got from the game manual for Super Mario World.. If I was to display it like this do you think it would solve my problem? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "After saving the Mushroom Kingdom from Bowser and the rest of the Koopas in Super Mario 3, Mario and Luigi needed to recuperate from their adventures. " - The official story from Super Mario World from the games manual and originally written by Nintendo <the word nintendo being linked to nintendo.com> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obviously the proper version has proper spacing and paragraphs... but its not copying and pasting properly for some reason. So would this fix the problems for at least things extracted from official manuals etc?
You have to look at it from a ratios perspective The more similar you are, the less original you are and the more likely you are to have it flagged as the same or very similar. Whereas the more effort you put in to be original, the more you will stand out and the more you will be rewarded accordingly. There is no additional value in the same old same old is there now really? Who wants to see the same as aywhere else? Google will take the same stance or outlook as it wants to provide that which stands out not that which is the same all over the place. You should look at it as merely adding to the vaue of your site which oyu have said by your own admission you regard as " The vast majority of my content is original and excellent quality" so treat this the same way and with the same care and reap the rewards for doing so with better results and less concern about being pegged as the same as everywhere else. Though your image idea is another solution to of course, but it doesn't add any value for you long term (well other than image search finds of course if you use the right file names and alt tags) though it might just solve your immediate problem of course.
Thanks for the nice post. It is advisable to use relevant content instead of duplicate or copied content on the website.
I would suggest you to edit the content or place a credit for the original content. More over you website has a poor navigation system
Giving credit to original content creator is different thing, it is not directly related to SEO. SEO needs fresh content so you have to write fresh content there is no other ways.. Whether you rewrite in your words, or you write with your unique ideas... Writing with unique ideas would be preferred by Google over rewriting.
