Duplicate content penalty

I recently changed around the URL's on one of my websites, and a couple weeks afterwards almost all of my content pages dropped out of google.

    sitename.com/content_name/

    and the new url

    sitename.com/files/1-content-name.htm

Were both displaying the same content.

I've just use 301 redirects from all of the old pages to the new ones. Assuming it was duplicate content that got the pages removed... Should everything be fixed next time google crawls my site or am I going to be stuck with some penalties for a while?

That happened to me and once I made changes my side then Google picked them up a few days later and things slowly returned to normal.

I also blocked access with robots.txt to some duplicate areas which helped too.

I think in 2 or 3 weeks your new pages come back to google serp, it's normally.
