question guys , i have this auto blog that have cool rankings , i write some of the content and also have some auto updates from rss source , in the last 2 days i was not checking the site and something messed up with the rss grabber and he posted each post twice which created lots of duplicate content on the site , as soon as i saw it i went and deleted all the duplicate posts but today when i check ranking i saw that the home page of the site that was highly rank for a very good keyword had a huge drop in ranks ( have not even saw it on the first 10 pages. is it a duplicate content penalty ? if it is so what can i do more after deleting the duplicate content ? is there a way to let google know i dont have that content any more ? is it just a question of time ? Would appreciate your ideas Thanks !
I wouldn't worry about it. Page rank has changed for a lot of people the last couple of days. Some folks are pointing at Google's new hemorrhoid "Page Load Time". Rumor has it that slower loading sites will have a lesser chance of ranking well then a site that does load pages fast.
I would recommend you do checking out for content ratio between uniqueness written by you and the RSS scraped. This is not a kind of penalized but degraded as low quality sites. The optimum ratio should be 70/30 - Unique / RSS. However, I would also recommend you avoid using content from RSS feeds if possible.
Just delete those duplicated contents on your blog and wait for Google to re-index your blog would be OK. Of course, getting some backlinks from high PR (above 6) sources would usually be helpful for a speedy re-index purpose, IMO. Have a nice day,
I have lot of blogs and sites which I monetize myself. However I have been using the auto rss feed updates for some of them. I make sure that it doesnot get posted when I am not around, so I can check it before the content gets posted. In your case, I will suggest you to just hang around and continue the regular stuff you have been doing, google will index your pages again after a couple of weeks.
Duplicate content sites will be penalized definitely, once it is found by google. So better write unique content to ur sites.
I don't know more about Duplicate content penalty. But sometime before, I write a post for my blog and published it. After sometime, I saw that my some keywords of blog are drop 30 number. After, checked the publish content, I found that one paragraph is duplicate. I replaced that paragraph with new content. Next time, after cache, I saw all keyword are on the same position.
Duplicate content on ones own site will hurt I had a similar problem a while back where I dropped about 6-7 pages. I have seen no real problem with duplicate content on autoblogs that have some unique content. I wonder if all those news sites get penalized for duplicate content? I wonder if all those social sites get nailed for duplicate. Something to think about.
It can be a penalty or it may not be. Word of advice, Don't publish RSS feeds directly. Moderate it wisely.
I have seen that in blogger blog I write, now when I post an article puts me among the top 50 sites, but as the days go, I send it to the post 120. Come on, that I believe takes into account the recency of the news and are updated according to others, leaving more going backwards. On the other hand, some news that I put duplicate in the same blog, I've never seen the penalties. News about concerts or movies .. I copy and paste from another site, but if dacuenta of which is the original site, and values better than mine
There is a group of us (about 40 + ) that have been putting up basically Adsense sites. We use original content plus RSS feeds. The majority of our sites appear on the first or second page of Google for our keywords after we complete our backlink campaign. So I don't think RSS feeds are a problem at all. We don't care about pagerank, but do need to be on the first 2 pages of Google to collect on Adsense, affiliate sales etc.
I've never heard of an RSS feed when used properly on a webpage with other original content as being the cause of a dupe content penalty by Google.
