Quick question: Will duplicate content on a single page penalize my entire site in SERPS? Long version: I have a site, widgetguy.com, that is 95% original content, mostly flash animations, and I would like to include a "joke" page with jokes about widgets for my visitors. Most of the jokes I can think of are already on the net, 50,000 times. Will including such a page penalize (or exclude) the whole site in the SERPs, or just that page? (obviously there will be a different result for each SE, but I'm looking for a general "best practices" solution). Thanks.
not in my experience. I've had sites with duplicate content, and only the dupe pages ended up in the supplemental index.
I agree with the previous posts. But why not just mix the jokes up and add a few new ones. This way, with little effort, you will not have a true duplicate page.
I would say.. why to take risk.. because i felt my site has been penalized for duplicate content ( it was like 3-4 pages of duplicate content) and when i changed the content than i again i got my rankings back.. firstly i use to rank like #2-#3 but after adding pages i was no where till #100 and i waited there for a month.. than i changed the content and now i m on #44 position.. so it may or may not be because of duplicate content..
But see your keywords will be around 10% of page content not more then that, google dont like dup content mainly if u spam keywords.
