Hi, If I have 2 pages on my server that are identical except for the file extension and one is linked to from the pages of my site but the other is not linked to at all, do you think I could be penalized for having duplicate content? Thanks, Matt
I doubt it. First of all, if its not linked from anywhere, then Google won't find it. Secondly, if you're concerned, why not just remove the second file from the server?
Hi, thanks for the reply. I figured it would be okay, just wanted to ask to be on the safe side. I don't want to remove the file because it is for a links page and if one of my link partners is using some software to track the link, if I remove the page they might remove my link thinking that I removed theirs, even though I just changed the extension to asp instead of htm.
Not one to pass judgment, but it is really a dirty trick having a links page that the spiders cant get to, or am I missing something.
Here is what I meant: I had a links page called res_site.htm and added some reciprocal links to it. When I started adding more links pages I wanted to use server side includes so I could update the navigation in those pages easily so I changed the extension to .asp and left all of the links on it. Basically their links are on 2 pages now, but only 1 of them is linked to.
I see it all now lol. what every one said then, with no links, the search engines will drop the page that has been replaced.
