When considering dup content, is google comparing other domains or does it also look at other pages within a domain. Eg. http://www.solutionlibrary.com/business/business_law/ ^ Is an index listing of problem/solutions on our site. It has a short description and partial, if it exceeds set number of chars, long description of a problem. Links on that page link to the individual problem pages, which usually contain most, if not all, of the content on the index listing page. Eg. http://www.solutionlibrary.com/business/business_law/9768 Would this setup somehow be penalized for duplicate content? Would setting the index/listing pages as NOINDEX help this if in fact it is getting penalized as dup? Thanks!
I think the biggest problem is when a large percentage of the content from your site can also be found on other sites, and your site is not the "hub" for this info. Having some duplicate content within your own site should not be a big deal, though it may not get indexed twice.
Google will delete your pages from its Cache plus your website's value will shoot down in terms of SEO.
